Brighten Up Your Town with Cath Kidston

When the team at Cath Kidston got in touch to tell me about their amazing new Brighten Up Your Town competition, I just knew I had to nominate my adopted hometown of Manchester. I’ve lived here for over 4 years now and have been visiting the city since I was a teenager, so it’s a city I know well and truly enjoy being in. I’d say it’s definitely a city that’s worthy of its own Cath Kidston print.

Afternoon Tea at Great John Street Hotel

I set off (boyfriend in tow) for a day around Manchester, capturing my favourite parts and things to do. I was inspired firstly by my teapot jumper from Cath Kidston and visited the Great John Street Hotel for a spot of afternoon tea, which came highly recommended from my friends at The Afternoon Tea Club.

We scoffed delicate finger sandwiches made with the softest bread, fresh fluffy scones laden with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and finished it all off with macarons and cake, lots of cake. Plus about as many cups of tea as is socially acceptable, which in Manchester is at least three. The hotel is a bit of a hidden gem, located near the Museum of Science & Industry (another must-see!), and a favourite of visiting celebrities from all over the world. You’ll stop for tea and never want to leave!

Shopper’s Paradise

Manchester is also a mecca for shopaholics, with the Trafford Centre, Manchester Arndale in the city centre and lots of quirky independent shops in the Northern Quarter. Stop at Home Sweet Home to recharge your batteries with pulled pork, insane cakes (seriously, check out their Twitter) and a frothy cappuccino. Then top it all off with a ride on the Manchester Eye, if that’s even its official name, to see Manchester in all its glory!
