I apologise in advance for yet again posting about drool-worthy burgers. They’re my weakness and I won’t stop until I eat them all.
Anyway, a week or so ago, I was invited down to the Trafford Centre by Gourmet Burger Kitchen. I’d noticed their absence from the Trafford Centre, with the place all boarded up for renovations, so I was delighted when they asked me and Mat to pop along to the relaunch night. Their amazing PR team sent me a little pre-event surprise in the post too, with a GBK apron and tote bag. Such a lovely gesture, especially considering how awesome I look in an apron… ok maybe not!
On arrival, we were offered a bottle of their Meantime London Lager, which Mat had already been eyeing up on the menu. A promising start. We walked through the renovated restaurant, whilst I muttered comments like ‘I want that light in our bedroom’ and ‘that’s the shade of yellow I was telling you about’ to Mat. They’ve definitely done a great job, giving it a sort of industrial makeover. Simple but really edgy too.
We ended up sitting upstairs, which you should definitely ask for if you can because you get a lovely view of the Orient.
Mat opted for the Avocado Bacon burger, which is pretty self explanatory. He seemed a bit miffed initially that he couldn’t have it cooked rare, but the medium rare burger that arrived was just how he liked it. His side of choice was sweet potato fries, delicious as you would usually expect but also made that little bit better with their hei hei salt.
My burger had already been picked for me before I even had chance to digest the entire menu, thanks Mat. He chose well though, ‘The Don’ is packed out with American cheese, gorgonzola, onion jam, baconnaise(!!!), rocket, house mayo, pickled onion, all in a soft brioche bun. Add to that some corn on the cob and a huge BUCKET of milkshake, I was full and content.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a ‘cheeky GBK’ as much as a ‘cheeky Nandos’, but don’t expect it to blow your mind in the same way an Almost Famous or SoLita burger would. That being said, they cook them how you want, the milkshakes are amazing and the service is always great. Especially the super friendly manager at the Trafford Centre branch! I’ll definitely be back for a post-shopping burger fix.
Our meals were complimentary of GBK, but all thoughts & opinions are my own.
