Brunching in Alderley Edge
With shaking legs and very hungry tums after our Barrecore fitness class, Katie & I decided to grab some healthy brunch whilst we were in Alderley Edge at the weekend. Katie blogs over at Frankie’s Weekend, where she talks about nutritious meals, fitness tips and her very regular travels to beautiful places, so I knew it was best to leave our brunch destination choice up to her.
We took a detour from Alderley Edge’s high street, to a quaint little cafe and shop called The Yard, which is housed in a former garage. They serve up delicious healthy food, drinks and cakes (not so healthy but hey!), all locally sourced and produced. We grabbed a table and thankfully made it there in time for their breakfast menu which stops at 11.30am.
Avoiding the coffee that would probably make our shaky legs even worse, we started off with two matcha lattes. If you’ve never had one before, you definitely need to! Matcha is basically a super concentrated form of green tea, full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, and in latte form it tastes delicious. Ours were dusted with coconut sugar and cacao powder too, making them even more yummy.
We made our choices in record time as we were so bloody hungry! Katie went for the poached eggs and seasonal greens with rye bread and I had the smoked salmon, wilted spinach and scrambled eggs with sourdough bread. It was such a great post-workout refuel for us both and everything was locally produced and sourced which meant it tasted really fresh. Despite that, we didn’t pay over the odds, with each of us having plenty of change left from a tenner (including drinks).
Judging by the other food on display and the rest of the menu, we decided that we definitely need to get back again for some lunch. Leaving our empty plates, I stopped and grabbed a slice of gluten-free victoria sponge to take home for Mat and we had a little browse in their food shop before heading home.
The Yard is based in Alderley Edge and you can find out more info on their Facebook page here or Twitter page here.
