Long-Lasting Makeup
For a long time now, I’ve been searching for those key products for my makeup bag that, once applied, will last the day. I didn’t really think it was much to ask for, until I’d gone through a lot of very expensive products that just didn’t make the cut.
As a huge fan of my Urban Decay Naked palette, which always lasts the day on my eyes, I knew it made sense to turn to them for some different products that might last just as long.
The Base
I’ve struggled to find my ‘Holy Grail’ foundation for years now. I think I like one, then it just finds a way to disappoint me, either with shades, formula and more often than not, price. Urban Decay aren’t really known for their foundations, so I was quite sceptical to give it a go, but I was so impressed!
I opted for the Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Foundation in Shade 2.0, which was perfect for my slightly tanned post-holiday skin. They do have a good shade range for lighter and darker skin tones though.
Coverage is medium, buildable (truly buildable, no caking here!) and semi-matte. It covers most blemishes pretty well and believe it or not, it doesn’t slide off my face by 5.30pm. It comes in a light plastic pump bottle and the formula is quite runny. I find it best when buffed into my skin with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, but you could probably get away with using your fingers too.
Its perfect partner is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer, which I was advised to get in Light Warm. Like the foundation, it’s quite a runny formula, but it works really well to cover any dark circles and blemishes that you haven’t quite managed to cover with the foundation. I always apply my concealer with the Real Techniques Setting Brush, which is a great size for lightly buffing in your concealer. It also works well to apply any highlighter!
The Blush
Honestly, this is probably one of my favourite products of all time. The Urban Decay Afterglow Blush in Obsessed* is a lightweight, blendable powder that gives a beautiful colour (especially on pale skin tones) which lasts all-damn-day.
If you’re a fan of NARS blushers, you’ll love these just as much, as they’re very similar in terms of pigment and longevity but come in a few pounds cheaper!
The Eyes
I think most people will agree that you really couldn’t hope to achieve a long-lasting eye makeup look without one of the Primer Potions! I can’t fault the Original Urban Decay Primer Potion, but recently I’ve been trying out a few of the others in the range.
My first addition was the ‘Eden’ version, which is a more matte formula than the original. It gives you a nude matte base, making it perfect for any eyeshadow look, day or night. The second one I tried out was the ‘Sin’ version, which is a shimmery golden shade, perfect for a warm smokey eye or even great to apply on its own. I find ‘Sin’ to be slightly less long-lasting, so often use this for evening makeup looks rather than everyday looks.
The Primer Potions are a makeup bag essential for priming your eyes before applying eyeshadow. If you’ve never used them before, you’ll seriously wonder how you coped without them!
